Hell on Earth Chapter 3

Authors' Notes:  If you haven't read my earlier posts then look to the bottom one.

As night fell I noticed how much brighter the stars seemed, than usual.  I heard the clips, squeaks, and rustles of bugs and animals moving around us, and I smelled the on coming rain racing across the sky.

"Wow.  What a beautiful night, I've never imagined the world could be so, so aw inspiring."  I mumbled to Marcus as he walked next to me, with the help of his crutch.

"I know what you mean.  You read about the earth being a place of life and beauty but you don't truly understand its magnificence while in civilization," Marcus spoke.

I sighed and then yawned.  It had been a very long day, full of repetition and some terrifying excitement.  "What do you think happened?"

"I hace no idea.  I've barely had any time to let it all sink in myslef."  Marcus said, immediately knowing what I was talking about.

"I mean, that explosion.  What could it have been?  A bomb?"

"I don't think so, if it had been we would have died from radiaion or something."

"Well if it wasn't a bomb then what else could have causeed all tha..."  I cut of and emediately began to tear up.

Marcus reached for my hand and squeezed it hard,  trying to give me some comfort.  "I know, I know.  Lets find some were to sleep and talk about it later.  We need to figure out what we are going to do any way."

"Alright."  I let his hand go and after about fourt five minutes of continued walking we stumbled across a bolder with a somewhat large indentation that we could sit under.

I helped Marcus sit on the ground and began looking for the sweaters that I had packed because of the slowly creeping chill that was beginning to sting the night air.

"Here," Marcus told me.  I looked at him to find that he had gotten a peach out of one of the packs he had been caring.

"Wow!  I didn't even realize I was hungry," I said while my stomach growled from extreme lack of food.  I grabbed the fruit and quickly bit into it.  "Ym," I moaned as the sweet juice flowed into my dry and needy mouth.  I chewed the flesh until it was a mushy, intoxicating soup and quickly swallowed it.  My stomach gurgled because of the sudden food and I quickly took another bite to try to satisfy it.

After I finished the peach I threw the pit into the near bye brush and snuggled into Marcus as my innurds begged for more.  I decided to not say anything about it because I didn't want to use any more  food than neccesary.  "Marcus, what are we going to do?"

He looked at me and kissed my hair.  "I think what we need to do is continue going in the direction we were walking and try to find a town or city for help."

"What if we come across an animal or something?"  I asked him.

"Eve, what do you think I was doing down stairs, at the house?"  He asks me, exasperatedly.

"Uh, packing food?"  I sayed while giving him a questioning look.

"Well yes, but I also packed the cut-co knives you stash under the sink."  He said with a grin.

"Oh, thats good then.  I wish we had a gun."  I said while frowning.

"Well, as you often say, our government is run by girl scouts."  He said with a wink pointed towards my direction.

I chuckled, layed my head on his chest, and losed my eyes.  "I'm so happy I have you."

"I love you."  Marcus whispered into my ear and pulled me into a hug while we slowly drifted off to sleep.

Hell on Earth Chapter 2

Authors' Notes:  If you haven't read my earlier posts then look to the bottom one.

As the day began and the sun came out we, no longer, were facing signs of fire but were noticing cracks and holes in the earth instead.  "Marcus, I need to stop.  I can't go on much longer."

Marcus began to slow down and suddenly his panting increased as he told me, "Ok.  We can walk instead.  I think the woRST...!"

"MARCUS!"

Marcus had fallen into a crooked hole in the ground that had earlier, been hidden by  leaves covering the forest floor.  "Eve, my foots caught on something and I don't think I can get it out.  Help!"  I grabbed his upper arms and began to try to pull him up.  "Shit," Marcus cursed and winced as his hidden leg was pulled.  "I think its broken, we can't get it out."

"NO! come on, don't leave me." I began to sob while my worry and heart rate started to increase.  "I need you.  I can't survive without your help.  Don't be such a baby!"

Marcus nodded and braced himself for the next pull  I grabbed his arms again and pulled as hard as I could.  He screamed and I began to cry out of remorse.  After a few horrifying seconds, we were able to pull him free.  Once his food became visible I noticed that it was twisted in an alarming angle and covered in a dark bruise that had already spread across half his ankle.

"Marcus, what a we going to do now?  I don't know what to do!"  I freaked and began to sob in despair and renewed terror.

"Eve, calm down.  Everything will be alright.  Its not as bad as it seems."

"Don't tell me its not as bad as it seems!"  I tell him, exasperatedly.  "You obviously can't walk on that foot and we can't stay here, we need to find help."

"Eve.  It's alright.  Now calm down and listen."  I began to try to calm myself and he continued.  "Now, can you please help me by getting something to wrap around my foot and a long piece of wood that I can use as a crutch or a cane."  I nodded and immediately open one of the bags I had been carrying.  I pull out a shirt and bring it to him.  "alright.  Now, find a twig so that I can keep my foot straight."  I soon find a pretty straight stick and he makes a makeshift brace.  "Next, lets try to find a sufficient stick that I can use to help myself walk.  After countless minutes of searching threw forest under growth and weak or crooked brambles, I find a perfect one without to much foliage.  I, then, walk back to him.

"Marcus, Marcus.  I found one, I found one!"

"About time, I was starting to think that you had gotten lost."  He says while sending his, number one, teasing smile in my direction.  I role my eyes and toss him the branch.  Marcus slowly begins to stand and with my help, is able to get to his feet and start walking.

A few minutes later, I start to wonder about the crack Marcus had fallen into and the many others that I had continue to notice.  "Marcus."

"Hm?" He mumbles while staring, focused, at the ground.

"What do you think is causing all these cracks?"

"What cracks?"  He looks at me, curiously.  "there was only one hole and I was lucky enough to find it with my feet."

"Uh?  All the cracks around here."  I point out a thin scar in the earth that was about two feet long.

"Oh.  Didn't even see that, "Marcus says, surprised.

I role my eyes and sigh audibly while I say, loud enough for him to hear, "Men."

Hell on Earth Chapter 1

BOOM!  I wake up in a blinding light of red and gold with an unimaginable torrent of heat surrounding me.  I blindly claw my way out of bed to a window and look out but what I see is almost unbelievable.  The world is on fire and only the bodies of the dead can be seen through the wreckage that is Boston.

I turn back to the bed and scream at Marcus to wake up.  He is already awake but is frozen in shock at the horror that surrounds us.  I run to him and slap him on the face to make him focus.  He shakes his head and yells at me, “Eve, we need to get the hell out of here.  Pack what you can carry and be ready in two minutes.  Let’s hope we still have time.”  He then ran out of bed, pulled some pants and a shirt on, and ran down stairs to the kitchen.

I, terrified to my wits end, start to cry but force myself to get dressed and start packing as many of our clothes as possible.  Two and a half minutes later, Marcus yells at me to get my ass down stairs and I immediately close the bags and scramble out the door.  The house is practically aflame and all I can see is smoke.  “Marcus where are you?  Help!”

“Down here.”  He calls and suddenly is no longer enveloped within the flames and smoke.

I run towards him and we gallop out the front door to find hell itself.  Burning bodies, and screaming men and women in flames.  “AAAHHH!”  I scream and Marcus drags me towards the high way.  We run in the middle of the street consumed within a funnel of fire and death.

After an unspeakable amount of time we find ourselves on the free way off ramp but afterwards there is nothing.  The freeway was a collapsed pile of rubble and exploded cars.  “Come on, we need to find a way across.”  Marcus then grabs my left arm and we run down the side of the freeway were we notice a drainage pipe that hadn’t collapsed during the chaos.  “Stay behind me and be ready for anything.”

“I am as ready as I can possible be in my current state of mind.  Don’t ask for more or I’ll have to hurt you,”  I tell Marcus and he nods understandingly.  He drops down on all fours and crawls into the pipe.  I squirm for a second and then do the same.

Luckily the pipe is clear and we crawl out the other side to find ourselves in the open.  The fire isn’t as bad here and we can see forest nearby.  We begin to run again and don’t stop until hours later.

Please comment and give me your thoughts.  This is the first time I'm ever showing anyone any of my written work and I want to know the truth about it.  If you have any ideas of what can happen next let me know.  If anyone finds this before the next one is written I will probably write chapter 2 in the next couple of weeks.
